What do you want?

Before planning to come to the Kingdom, you must be absolutely clear about your needs. Saudi Arabia does not impose any kind of taxes and 100% of your savings can be renumerated back home. However, if you think life is easy here, then you are totally mistaken.

First of all, you need to make up your mind on what you need. Are you looking only for savings or are you looking for a good lifestyle? It if is the latter, then unfortunately, the place doesn't offer much as compared to other Middle East locations like Dubai or Qatar. Remember that this is a completely restricted society - no alcohol, no cinemas, no community events, etc. :-S So, if you are the kind of person who wants to "enjoy" life totally, then this place is not for you. However, all said and done, Saudi Arabia is the only place in the whole of Middle East where you can have maximum savings, simply because there just aren't enough outlets for you to spend! :D

Working in Saudi Arabia could be quite taxing and the maximum day temperature during summer touches 52 degrees Centigrade in most parts of the kingdom. Summer in Saudi Arabia starts by mid-April and may go on till almost end of October. Worse than the heat, is the humidity which is intolerable, particularly during July and August. Sandstorms are quite common as also hailstorms and one must be prepared for this. However, all indoor locations are usually air conditioned. If your workplace is going to be outdoor most of the time, then be prepared for such weather conditions. But don't get discouraged, people do work here and the happiest day is when you stand in the queue of Western Union to send money back home ;)

Dear Sir,
I read your post on final exit. it is very help very help information you provided. I have one question regarding credit card, one of my friend took credit card 2 years back and he was dealing fairly but all of sudden he has to go on emergency vacation. while going he withdrawn total amount of his credit limit. after 5 months, when he came back and checked his credit card statement, it was zero that is all the amount in statement is appearing zero. statement is showing no dues. now he is planning to go on exit thus it creates any problem for him. kindly advice us.

thanks & best regards

Syed,

Do not be fooled by what the statement says. It is ethically as well as legally binding to repay whatever dues your friend has. Just because the statement was not updated does not mean that your friend does not owe anything. Ask him to repay all the amount due, so that he can go back with his head high, without any fear, and with dignity.

Anonymous,

If your friend has a good relationship with his employer, ask him first to contact his employer and explain why he is not returning. Everything depends on the employer whether to pay his dues or not, as he is physically not in the kingdom.

Respected Sir,
Good evening to you,
if you remember, I had sent you a mail about a month back regarding my husband who has been in Saudi for six months (tommorow he will be comleting six months).
Sir the scenario is still the same. You had advised me to tell him to put in his resignation. The problem that he cannot put in his resignation is that he had been recruited by the employer but through an agency. This has made matters worse.
Secondly he has still not got any orders & is getting verbal bashing for the same practically every day.
I am really worried about his wellbeing & health (physical & mental) & want him to come back as soon as possible.
I have a few questions to ask you:
1. can we approach the embassy & try & sort matters from there
2. will it cause more harm to him
3. Can we give some excuse of the health of someone dear to him being critical.

I am scared to indulge in these tactics since thay can boomerang on him adversly.
Kindly reply to this mail as early as possible, so that i can decide on my line of action.

Thanking you
Regards
ABC

First of all, get rid of your fear. The more your husband fears, the more they will take advantage of it. I dont understand what you mean by saying that he has been recruited by an agency. Is he under some manpower supply basis, i.e., sponsored by an agency but working elsewhere? If so, it becomes even easier, not difficult. Ask your husband to simply submit his resignation to his sponsor, not the place where he works but to the guy who have him the visa. At the worst, he may be asked to pay for his ticket back. It is better than dying every day and getting bashed by some lunatic. He should approach the embassy only if his sponsor refuses to accept his resignation or physically ill-treats him. Good luck!

If you have completed your contract, first of all give it in writing to them that you do not wish to extend your contract and would like to go on exit. Do not have any verbal communication. Have copies of your correspondence and get acknowledgement. Your sponsor has no right to issue you an exit/reentry visa in this case.

Expatguru said...

Joe,

By all means, you certainly can stay with her, because you are her spouse. It is just that you cannot sponsor her, that's all.
